This model has as well inherited the number "XV", from the first name the Great Trigonometric Survey of British India gave to Everest in 1856, then known as Peak XV. Ball’s Engineer Hydrocarbon Ceramic XV timepiece was presented in 2011. It is designed to function in very harsh conditions. The timepiece is equipped with Swiss-made ETA 2892 automatic movement that is certified by Contrôle Officiel Suisse de Chronométres (COSC) – the Swiss institute that tests chr... onometers. Hands, numerals and indices are illuminated through the use of 31 self-powered micro gas tubes that glow 100 times brighter than luminous paint. The watch is protected from shock, magnetic influences and water penetration. The ceramic bezel is virtually scratch-proof. It rotates to mark elapsed time and is readable at night time because of the luminous markers painted on the surface. Additional useful functionalities include a date display located between 4 and 5 o’clock, sweep seconds, patented crown protection system and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating.
